Notice - About the Real-name Registration Programme for SIM Cards in Hong Kong taken effect on 1 September 2021

Please do noted that the following regulation only affects all the SIM cards issued by the telecommunications service providers (MNO/MVNO) in Hong Kong only. And if you do not have a Hong Kong Identity (HKID) card, you can also use your own passport from your country to register the prepaid SIM card via the telecommunications service provider's website.

In Hong Kong, the Telecommunications Regulation has taken effect on 1 September 2021 to implement the Real-name Registration Programme for SIM Cards ("Real-name Registration Programme").

The Regulation requires that, users should complete real-name registration for their SIM cards with their telecommunications service providers from 1 March 2022.

All newly effective SIM service plans and new Prepaid SIM cards will require real-name registration before activation from now on.

Existing Prepaid SIM card users are required to complete real-name registration with respective telecommunications service providers on or before 23 February 2023. Thereafter, unregistered Prepaid SIM cards will be deactivated.
